Guide
Proofread a Word document
The Grainwrite editor opens a .docx file, keeps its formatting, and lets you proofread the whole document before you export it back as a .docx. You can also rewrite any passage that reads stiffly, without touching the rest.
Steps
- Open your file. Choose Open .docx in the editor. Your formatting comes through as it was.
- Proofread the document. Run Proofread document and go through the suggestions for spelling, grammar, punctuation and word choice. Accept the ones you agree with, or ignore the rest.
- Rewrite a passage if needed. Select the sentences or paragraph you want reworded and choose Humanize. Only the selected text is sent to the model.
- Export. Export .docx keeps your formatting, links, citations and a References list if you added any.
What it costs
Proofreading costs half a credit per word plus a flat 40-credit fee per check. So a 400-word document costs 240 credits. Rewriting costs one credit per word you select, plus the same fee per request. The Proofreader page takes up to 500 words at a time. Its quick check is free and runs in your browser while you type.
Before you send it
- Read the changes in context. A suggestion that fixes grammar can still change your meaning.
- Check names, numbers and dates by hand, because they are the easiest details to lose in a rewrite.
- Keep your original file. The export is a new copy, so your source document stays as it was.
